Welcome to the new season! Our guest speaker this month is Natalia Nekrassova, Curator Textile Museum of Canada. As curator of research and collections, Natalia is very knowledgeable about the Museum’s collection of more than 12,000 objects from more than 200 countries and regions. In addition, her research is instrumental in bringing exhibits of interest to fabric lovers to Toronto from all over Canada and the world. Find out how it all works and what’s happening at this unique museum right at our doorstep, at 55 Centre Street. No workshops are associated with this program, but workshops related to current exhibits are often given at the Museum. See the museum website for details.

She’ll teach Sunflower and Coneflower in her workshop.

Hilary Rice from Nova Scotia leads us on a artist's creative journey. “Each of us moves through our lives, one thing leading to another, the way the silk journey of long ago was a continuous journey.” Come join Hilary along the road as we make book covers just in time for Christmas or learn to use Top-Stitch Curved Piecing to create quilted landscapes. Hilary will also judge entries in the President’s Challenge, which will be exhibited at the general meeting.
December
There is no meeting in December. Happy Holidays, and see you in January!

Happy New Year! The Community Quilts Workshop will be held this month. This is a chance to meet new people and have fun working together while enjoying refreshments and the good company of other quilters. Smaller groups or individual members transform the blocks into quilts which we donate to selected organizations in the community for fund-raising purposes. There is no show and share tonight.
February
Elaine Quehl joins us this month to illuminate the path from inspiration to art quilt. Elaine’s work has garnered lots of attention in quilting magazines and at shows. Her work is characterized by bold and sensual images with contrasts of light and shadow to intensify the visual drama that inspires her in the natural world. Often her inspiration is a close-up photo of foliage or flowers. She will share various surface design treatments to enrich the effects of depth and contrast.
March
Carol Soderlund illustrates the fifteen elements of design. All are welcome in Carol’s workshops on free-motion quilting with a home machine. Stitchery is the name of the game, and experimentation is the theme. She’ll talk to us about the elements of design in nature, art, and quilts, and share some of her own quilts. Carol’s quilts have been exhibited nationally and internationally since 1985 and have received numerous awards. Stitchery is only one of her talents; she is a teacher of color and fabric dyeing as well.
April
Becky Goldsmith will brighten the evening with her display of colourful quilts. Just in time for spring! Get out your needles for some hand applique from Becky’s treasure trove of whimsical flower patterns. A lecture and three days of workshops, including one on Sunday, gives everyone a chance to learn how she uses a unique sense of colour to achieve the delightful patterns we expect from Piece O’Cake Designs.
