Carol Seeley

Carol Seeley works in both a traditional style with intricate heirloom designs, and contemporary innovative techniques, to create fibre art that has won numerous awards including: the Award of Excellence, Best of Show and Viewers’ Choice in juried shows. She has also had pieces accepted in the Canadian National Juried Quilting Exhibition, Grand National, World Quilt Competition and Northwest Quiltfest. Her work has been featured in three publications, and she has published original design patterns.

A degree in Mechanical Engineering and years of colour study influence her work, and she uses value and colour extensively "to create dimension and mentally transport viewers to places far beyond the actual two-dimensional framework of my quilts."

Carol has been a respected quilting teacher since 1992 and continues to teach from her home in Campbell River, B.C.

Workshop 1 - Explorations of Felting I

1 Day Workshop: Sunday November 15, 2009 - 9:30am to 3:30pm

Workshop Location: The Mabin School, 50 Poplar Plains Road, Toronto (Avenue Road and Dupont area)

Fee: $55 (class fee) + $25 (kit fee) - Total $80

Explore the art of felting. Learn the basics of wet felting to create cohesive fabric pieces from wool roving from delicate and lacy to solid and firm. Then play with enhancing a base fabric using needle felting. Work will be done by hand in class, but the same principals can be applied to machine work later. Then learn the process of creating a dimensional felted object/shape. The possibilities of using felting in your art quilts are endless. Your workshop kit includes all fibre, tools and most materials needed to complete the course.

No previous experience necessary.

Workshop 2 - Secondary Designs

2 Day Workshop: Tuesday November 17 and Wednesday November 18, 2009 - 9:30am to 3:30pm

Fee: $110

Workshop Location: Bonaventure Parish Centre, 1300 Leslie Street, Toronto, Ontario

This class will be a study of traditional quilt block designs and the secondary designs created by repeating and placing these traditional blocks in unique layouts. With the aid of a hinged mirror and a Xerox machine the students will take traditional time honoured blocks of their choice and create an original quilt design on paper. During day two the students will cut fabric and with the use of a flannel design board begin to create their quilt top. Sewing machines required for day two only.
