TGIF 2009-2010 Awards
It’s back again... The York Heritage Quilters Guild T.G.I.F. Awards! A fun and friendly competition, open to most (but not all) members of York Heritage. If you always start a quilting project, focus on it and complete it quickly, I’m sorry you won’t be able to enter this competition. But for the rest of us, mired in UFO’s, here is an incentive to complete one of them - especially since there will be prizes!!! (see below)
Criteria are as follows:
- One quilt per member, any size
- The quilt must have been started before October, 2008
- You must take a picture o f the quilt in its current, unfinished stage (maybe a pile of blocks or a pile of patches; or some appliquéd bits or perhaps a completed top needing binding or quilting)
- Write a short note explaining why it became a UFO in the first place
- Pledge to finish it by sending in the pledge form with your photo. Deadline for pledges/entries is Jan 31 2010
- Bring the finished quilt to the May 2010 annual meeting. Completed quilts will be displayed at the York Heritage annual Meeting in May, and those present will vote for viewer’s choice in a variety of categories (to be revealed only at that meeting!). Entries will qualify for more than one category. Winners in each category will receive a York Heritage T.G.I.F. Award.
Think of how satisfying it will be to have your quilt done in plenty of time for the 2011 Celebration of Quilts show. Dig out the UFO, photograph it in its current stage and bring the pledge sheet and the photo to the October, November or January meetings. You can also mail it to Sandy Lindal - address is on the pledge sheet. You have 6 months to complete it and then bask in the admiration (and envy) of your fellow guild members.
Prizes!!
There are prizes for the following categories:
- Best Hand Quilting
- Best Machine Quilting
- Golden Seam Ripper Award (longest time underway)
- Legitimate UFO Award (most legitimate reason for the project becoming a UFO)
- Humour Award (funniest UFO reason)
- Speed Sewer Award (most to do to finish)
- Expansion Award (biggest increase in size from original plan)
- Viewer's Choice - small quilt
- Viewer's Choice - large quilt
You will be judged by your peers only!
