Community Quilts - 2007 Workshop

Community Quilts | Saturday Sampler| YHQG Challenge | Workshops

Tuesday October 16th was the evening we devoted to community quilting, and it was a rousing success!! About 180 community quilters met (busy fingers on hand!) and were guided by 20 table heads to make blocks or parts of blocks. We had four tables doing appliqué, and 16 tables hand piecing Chinese Coins, Rail Fence, Four Patch and Signature blocks. Many thanks to Ann Sutherland, who did an enormous amount of work organizing it all.

Sandy Lindal and Jeannie Jenkins placed a lot of the blocks on the design walls, after they'd been pressed by Ruth Garbe and Marion Boucher, and it was easy to see that another batch of splendid quilts will grow from our work.

Thanks are due to all the table heads and others who worked behind the scenes (in the kitchen!) to make the evening a success.

It was a joy to have Norma Gordon and Helgard Koch set up the hand quilting frame - it added a beautiful authenticity to our activities.

Under the guidance of Daniela Tiger, twenty organizations received one of our quilts since our last community quilt night. Thanks, Daniela. That's a daunting goal to have to live up to, but with everybody's help, we can do it! Kudos to all members who contributed to Community Quilt Night.

Who would like a quilt?

We already have several quilts on hand, and we're looking for worthy homes for them. Please let us know if you can think of an organization (in the general area of women and children's health or the environment) which could usefully use one of our quilts, either for fund-raising or for enhancing their facility (as a wall hanging). Organizations should be non-profit, and in southern Ontario. Have them contact Val Taylor (at granmaval@sympatico.ca) outlining their mission statement, and advising us how they would use one of our community quilts, i.e. raffle, auction, or other fund-raising method.

If there is anyone out there who would be willing to help out at the Community Quilt Evening, please get in touch with Val either electronically or by phone (see members list)

Community quilting sessions which will follow our community quilt night will be held (basically) on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, from 9:30 a.m. until about 2:30 p.m. at Ann Sutherland's home. Please see the members list for Ann's address. The dates confirmed for now are:
October 23rd, November 13th and 27th and December 11th.
