Community Quilt night was a great success thanks to over 300 members who came and made blocks.
We would like to thank all of you who participated in the community quilting event of October 24th. We were thrilled with the turnout, and although there were a few technical glitches in accommodating such a great number of participants, as well as the sale, we appreciated the patience shown by all, and the enthusiastic participation.
We hope you all had a chance to wander from table to table because there were no less than 20 different patterns being worked on simultaneously, and we are hoping that this variety will produce more complex and visually interesting community quilts this year. You will need to stay tuned and be the judges of that! In the meantime, 63 winners went home last night with a ruler, compliments of the guild. We would like to thank the guild for these prizes and we would also like to thank Maggie of Gillmar Quilting and Embroidery Supplies (gillmar@sympatico.ca) for providing these rulers so quickly and for the amazing discount she offered the guild.
We would like to make a special mention of the Six Patch Group from Scarborough. They took it upon themselves to create a beautiful Nine Patch Quilt and have donated it to Community Quilts. Thank you so much to Molly Dobbins, Anna Kennedy, Mayumi Minamata, Judy Murakami, Marie Wong, and Phoebe Wong. One fortunate community organization will be thrilled with your work this year. Again, another illustration of charitable work being done in our guild. Truly inspiring.
We know that many of you chose to take your blocks home, for "homework", and we are thrilled that you enjoyed your project so much that you wanted to carry on. The Community Quilters appreciate all your help. Many members chose to support our efforts from the comfort of their own homes; this help is also very welcome.
As soon as you have done all that you can do, please hand the project back to me at our meeting or get in touch with me (Daniela Tiger) and we can make arrangements. Don't forget that we are receiving requests for quilts on an on-going way and the sooner they are done, the sooner they can be passed on to a worthy organization.
If you have any further questions about community quilting, or would be interest in joiningg the group, please feel free to contact the community quilt group at info@yhqg.org . In the meantime, we wish you all "happy quilting and a very merry sewing year"!
If any small group would like to put together a quilt, piece a top, or quilt after someone else puts the sandwich together, please get in touch with Daniela Tiger at the next meeting. THANKS !!!!
